Venice, La Wahoo and Tuna Fishing
Well hunting seasons over and it’s time to get back to the fishing! You can say it’s anything but cold right now in Venice, because the fishing is on fire! With this past week of decent weather the wahoo bite has been on! With numerous rigs extremity close in has held plenty of wahoo ranging from 40 to 60 lbs class, and in most cases double digit bites and hauls!
The lump fishing by all means is full of life! Some days about a mile from approaching the lump you can see giant schools of bait getting exploded by tunas, big king macrales, etc. Most fish caught off the lump are hand fed. While chumming the waters it seems every piece of bait you throw in gets eaten by some kind fish! Before you know it the rods are bent over and drags are screaming! Most will say this time of year is their favorite, it’s defiantly mine! Most days we’re not having to travel further than 30 miles out before we’re on fish! At just 1 of the many lumps you can catch big yellow fin tunas ranging from 60 to 150 lbs class and sometimes even bigger than that like 180 to 200plus class!! 7 out of the top 10 gulf record yft’s is from the world famous Midnight Lump! Also there are usually many huge blackfin tunas ranging from the 15 to 30lb class.
The wahoos are also plentiful at our lumps, not to mention many different species of delicious bottom fish such as, amberjacks, bee-line snapper, lane snapper, and also grouper. So when the wind isn’t blowing gather your buddies put on a coat and some boots and call me to book a charter! Now is the time to book a trip of a life time!!

VENICE LOUISIANA FISHING REPORT
After days of bad weather and trip cancelations I was happy to get out and see what was going on. Things started off slow with it hard to make bait. We got lucky and found a grass patch that was loaded with perfect size hard tails. With a well full of baits we headed toward the tuna grounds. As we closed in on the rig I could see tuna sky rocketing. We hooked up on a nice yellowfin as soon as we got there using a popper. After soaking two live hard tails, nearly 20 minutes later both rods screamed. Both fish were in the 60lb range and were in the boat within 15 minutes or so. With a storm creeping up on us we were able to put 2 more fish in the boat. With a total of 4 yellowfin we were forced back to the dock at noon. October is around the corner. That means shrimp boat fishing for BIG tuna. Call to book your trip.

August Inshore Fishing Report Venice, La
Venice, Louisiana has been holding up its reputation when it comes to inshore fishing. We have been picking up a mess of Speckled Trout along with a quick limit of Red Fish . I have been hitting the Breton Sound area hard and its been paying off. The Cobia are also in full swing we picked up two in the 40 lb range while trout fishing. The river is starting to look right and with the trout moving up the clear green passes this month and into next, the fishing should be second to none very soon.

Venice La Fishing Reports
The July tuna season has been good despite all the dirty water and rough seas. Fortunately we have had very little trouble catching bait so it hasn’t been hard to put a nice box of fish together. We are live baiting with Hardtails, Thread fins, Pogies, and whatever else we can find that a tuna fish will eat. I am using a eagle claw 8/0 heavy wire circle hook with 10 to 12 ft. of frenzy 80# fluorocarbon. I normally use 60# but noticed I was getting more hook ups on the 80. The Wahoo bite had slowed down a little but is starting to kind of pick back up. As far as Dolphin they are still holding thick on rip lines and floaters. I still have a few a few spots open in august if you are looking to get out to Venice on a trip of a lifetime.
