Entering Our Summer Tuna Season

Posted on May 10th, 2017 by Captain Chandler

What a spring it has been here in Venice, Louisiana!  This has easily been one of the best  years we have seen for tuna fishing in a long time and I expect it to continue throughout May and into June/July.   The tuna have ranged in the 60 to 100 pound range with some whoopers thrown in.

Venice LA Tuna Fishing Guides

I am super excited to announce that we just took delivery of the new boat.  It is similar to our other 36′ Yellowfin however it includes some awesome new technology, motors, etc that will help us in putting you on the fish.  It is my passion to give my clients that highest end gear, boat and captain experience possible each and every trip which I was I am always updating and keeping with the changes in the industry.  The new motors are more efficient than my previous ones which means a less fuel bill at the end of the trip as well as faster cruise speeds to the fishing grounds.

Here is a sneak peak at our new 36′ Yellowfin with Triple Yamahas.

Tuna Fishing Boat

Now on to the tuna…we are switching up our fishing strategy as we now have live bait including threadfins and porgys in the area.  With the live bait we are fishing the floating oil rigs and having our best success early in the morning, however some days we are getting the bites in the middle of the day as well.  Looking for temperature breaks, birds, rips, etc has all lead to finding the tuna.

Big Tuna

As we cruise out in search of tuna, we are finding beautiful rips and edges that have been holding really good Mahi.  While tuna is just about 99% of our focus, I don’t think any of our clients have told us to keep running past one of the most beautiful fish in the ocean, the mahi mahi.  A fish of about 20-3olbs is always a rush and puts up a great fight on spinning tackle. We are also getting them on live bait, however mahi will eat trolled lures and dead baits as well.

Mahi Mahi In Venice LA

As the temperature continues to get warmer here in Venice, LA, we will be looking to get on the fish earlier in the morning by beating the fleet. If you can book a weekday, I always recommend it, however weekends are fine as there is a lot of area to fish even with several boats out there.  The best time to go tuna fishing in Venice, is when you can go!  It is a year round fishery here, however there are times of the year when the fish are bigger.  In the next couple months the average fish size will be between 40 and 80 pounds with the trophy going over 100.  These are NOT small fish and put a hurting on my anglers as tuna are pure muscle.  It is an awesome feat when you land one.  Are you up for the challenge?

That’s the report for now. I have a few dates left in May and several in June/July. Please call me to make a reservation for your Tuna Adventure and I look forward to fishing with you.

Captain Chandler

We have been fishing everyday and haven’t had time to do a report.  But I am making a conscious effort to get some video for our clients and managed to get some footage the other day.  I hope you enjoy this video and if are looking for a venice fishing charter, please give us a call.

The Yellowfin Fishing Has Been Fire!

Posted on May 17th, 2016 by Captain Chandler

Announcement: Snapper season is coming!  46 Day season!

While everyday is different, the one thing that has been consistent is the way the fish are feeding.  We have had the opportunity to fish with some great new clients these past 2 weeks as well as many of our regulars.

Kaitlin, Rae and their party joined us this week.  The seas were in their favor, but these girls were troopers and the fish were chewing!  We left them biting and they went home with coolers full of fresh tuna.  The girls did a great job landing some nice fish and keeping them away from the sharks.  The finally tally was 13 yellows and 1 black.

On our prior trips we had guys from all over the country come into the tuna capital of the world and they brought the luck and good vibes with them, because we outfished much of the fleet each day.

They are giving us a decent season which will last 46 days starting June 1st. By the way fishing has been ridiculous to say the least so if you have ever been interested in getting down to Venice la to get in on what you have been missing or if you are a regular and just want to get back down to fish with us again now is the time.

The Tuna Fishing is “Off The Hook”!!

Posted on March 1st, 2016 by Captain Chandler

Well where do I start? If you are reading this you probably have been keeping up with what’s going on in Venice, Louisiana, and you know the fishing has been “off the hook” if you will this late winter coming into early spring. It is mind blowing to think there has literally been hundreds of yellowfin tuna over 120 lbs hit the dock between cypress cove and Venice marina in the last seven days. The weather has also kind of been on our side this year. Our trips over the weekend were great, with calm seas, sunny skies, a fog less river, and plenty of big fish chewing. We have had action on almost all of our trips from the time we start till the time we’re finished within the past two weeks. Right now we are  chumming for them so its very hands on for the customer as they get to run their own rod and hook their own fish and good news is there have been plenty of bites for mistakes lol. I am expecting this march to be top notch and this furious bite to last.

changler

The wahoo have also shown up in large numbers, but with them being located around 50 miles or so from where we are catching the yft its makes them hard to really get on both in the same day. We have been picking up a few going to and from tuna fishing and not having to run more than 25 30 miles out the pass to get either species, but if you really want to try and target both I would suggest booking two days where we would dedicate one day to tunas and the next to wahoo. The average size on the wahoos have been around 30 to 60 lbs with some ranging close to 100lbs and we have been catching them on the troll unless we find live bait which can be scarce this time a year.

Point blank and to wrap things up we are smoking them. If coming to Venice and getting on an offshore fishing trip has ever been something you want to do, or something that you normally do, you need to come now! Like this month now! It truly is on fire, but if you can’t swing it now that’s the great thing about Venice, the fishing is pretty much awesome year around! We have plenty of prime dates open and multiple boats to accommodate large or small groups. So get with me while the getting is getting so we can put you on that, literally, trip of a lifetime.

Winter Is Here In Venice Louisiana

Posted on January 19th, 2016 by Captain Chandler

The winter season is here and we are targeting the big TUNA!  Everyday is different here in the winter, which is why I am always so stoked to get out there and read what mother natures gives us.

The past week has been rather consistent.  A lot of sharks and kingfish around, making it a challenge to get our big tuna’s to the boat and also a lot of big jacks!  When we do get a Tuna to eat, they have been so fired up from the cold water temperatures. Absolutely peeling drag and making our anglers work.

IMAG0241

While our #1 target is Yellowfin Tuna, some of my customers have really enjoyed big kingfish smoking runs.  The meat quality is good for the smoker and some clients have shared some interesting recipes with me that I will have to try as normally we throw most of the kings back.

As we get to the end of this month we are booking out for our wahoo season coming up.  If you have not fished the wahoo season with us, it is absolutely incredible.

The size and quality of the wahoo caught are unreal and some of the best in the country.

We are honored to be voted the top charter boat for 2015 again by ReelReports.com. We work hard to put our clients on the fish and there is a lot that goes on in the background to ensure all our charters get the best chance at a trophy fish.

We are off tomorrow and will be doing the boat maintenance and re-lining our reels with fresh line.

Give us a call to book your adventure.

Tightlines,

The Fall Big Tuna Are Here!

Posted on November 11th, 2015 by Captain Chandler

This is my favorite time of year, the temperatures have cooled off and the big fish are here. I love our summer fishery, but it’s always fun to get on a fish that is screaming drag and pushing 200 pounds when landed.

Lately we have been running a little further out for our clients and passing the rest of the fleet. It has really been paying off as we have been coming back to the docks with some great catches. We built this 36 yellowfin with triple 300 Yamahas so that we can beat the fleet and get you out there safely and comfortably. We have been doing just that. We repowered here in 2015 to ensure our customers always have the best shot at fish on the trips to Venice.

The fish have been in the 100lb range lately with some really bruisers. As we approach later in November, I expect the bigger fish to be a likable option each day and I’m looking for a record this year for my clients.

Here are some photos of the bigger fish that we have caught here in Venice. I still have a few dates available for the fall and have many openings as we approach the winter. Give me a call to setup your trip. I gotta get back to the boat.

Tight Lines,
Captain Chandler

Why Yellowfin Tuna?

Posted on September 8th, 2015 by Captain Chandler

Why have we spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on our boat?  Thousands on the best tackle and gear? And thousands of hours out at sea chasing these sea creatures.  Simply put, Tuna are awesome! From the epic fight to the high quality sushi grade meat, the quest for Yellowfin tuna is absolutely a thrill.

Venice Louisiana, is one of the top destinations in the world for Yellowfin and we target them year round. Our customers fly in from all over the country and many drive over 10 hours just to have a shot at these amazing fish.  While many of trips yield multiple fish, our clients are usually spent after the first couple fish as they can scream drag on size 50 tackle.

Recently we have been seeing some bigger fish and our fall fishing season is just around the corner with fish pushing 200 pounds a realistic shot every day.

So why Yellowfin Tuna? One look at this picture and I think you will understand.

With all the crazy chaos in the cockpit lately, we have preparing some exciting new videos. With the fall fishing season coming up, we are looking forward to fishing with many repeat customers that share the passion for Venice, LA. that we do. Here is a video from the Robert Law party that shows how crazy the fishing can get and in the fall the fish are even bigger! This is why we take a timeout to do all the maintenance on our tackle and boat to ensure you have the best opportunity to get on trophy tuna when you book with us.

Awesome Summer Venice Tuna Fishing!

Posted on August 19th, 2015 by Captain Chandler

We have a little break because the weather has been keeping us from getting out but we are still managing to put a box together! We will hopefully dodge the thunderstorms in the am and get back to the tuna fish! When the weather cooperates, the fishing has been world class. I tell my clients on any given day you have a chance at a real trophy tuna and that is our passion in putting you on the fish.  I have to get back to rigging for tomorrows trip, but here are some pictures.  We have open dates, so please give me a call to setup your tuna sportfishing trip.  Fall is some of my favorite fishing as we get the BIGGEST TUNA of the year.  Ask me which dates I think are your best shot and let’s get out there.  Tight Lines, Captain Chandler.
